Walk of the Month April – Ouzel Valley Meander
Each month we highlight a different walking or cycling route through Greensand Country. This month is the #OuzelValleyMeander that takes in the interesting scenery around Leighton Buzzard. Whilst you’re out take a small detour to see the new gateway to Greensand Country that has been installed in the High Street.
This 4.5 mile walk is perfect for those wanting to explore the varied countryside in the west of Greensand Country. If you go on the walk, be sure to send in your pictures! (insert camera emoji)

Wildlife Spot
There are a lot of different habitats and wildlife to experience on the Ouzel Valley Meander. If we had to choose just one thing, it would have to be the herons in the valley at Rushmere Country Park.
A 1.2 mile extension into Rushmere Country Park from the walk route will give you heathland and woodland to explore, and why not stop at the Tree Tops Restaurant too.
History Spot
Our history spot on rout is the Grand Union Canal. Stretching from the Midlands to London, the canal was a vital connection for industry before the advent of railways, especially for the local sand quarries. Even until the 1960s the canal was still being used to ship coal, grain, and steel, but is now used for leisure pursuits.
