The quiet roads and pretty cycleways of the Greensand Country are ideal for a day out by bike. There are some challenging hills and climbs for fitter riders, and plenty of level stretches for anyone wanting to take it a bit easier. The dry sandy soils mean that many of the off-road routes are passable even in the middle of winter,

The Greensand Cycle Ride route runs the length of the Greensand Country, covering the 37 miles between Leighton Buzzard and Sandy. You can tackle the whole route in one go, or break it up into sections with good public transport links between many of the towns on the route.

The Greensand Country Landscape Partnership is working with Sustrans and others to produce new maps for the route, extend the cycleway at each end and create a new cycle link to the Chilterns Cycleway.

For the more adventurous, there are networks of off-road cycle trails in Rushmere Country Park and more challenging trails in Aspley Woods

You can find route descriptions and maps of Greensand Country’s many straight and circular cycleways on the Central Bedfordshire Council website.
